Virtual Sandtray was created to provide a creative, expansive, projective, portable tool to allow clients to create their world(s) in therapeutic sessions both in person and remote, utilizing the powerful, projective technique of sand therapies.
The idea for Virtual Sandtray came after the 2011 Tōhoku Tsunami in Japan. A plea for materials from Dr. Akiko Ohnogi led to a main question: how can one provide a portable version of sandtray to help in these types of situations? After years of planning, research, and consultation with industry experts, the first commercial sales occurred in the end of 2015. With fundamental sand therapy tenets built into the foundation, expansions and features have been added over time to meet client and clinician needs, particularly in response to COVID-19. We were here before COVID-19 and will continue to serve you after.
Proceed with confidence; Virtual Sandtray is the original and only option backed by an industry recognized team of experts.
We are the only digital sandtray product that has partnered with the Lowenfeld Trust
Virtual Sandtray is available for iPads and iPhones.
Virtual Sandtray is intentionally designed for use on a portable touchscreen to ensure the kinesthetic experience of creating the tray with one's hands and not a mouse or a trackpad.
The Virtual Sandtray can be obtained through Apple's App Store. The therapist version is the paid application and is $169 on the US appstore (your price will vary on your countries store). The client version is free. All updates are free.
The Virtual Sandtray can be used in three main ways:1) in-person, face-to-face sessions2) via screenshare in telehealth3) via the remote feature either in person or in telehealth. The VSA is a professional, portable, tool that allows the use of therapeutic sand work in places within which and with people for whom the traditional process is not possible. It is also a powerful option for those who would like to do a traditional and virtual tray in the same session.
The ability to do remote therapy was added in response to the need for telemental health therapy due to COVID-19. This is created with an intelligently engineered approach to secure data transmission and avoids the high bandwidth needs of screen sharing.
Privacy and security are key portions of the foundational design and implementation of Virtual Sandtray. It has been designed to be private and secure from the first line of code written to the product you can use today. This is done utilizing industry standard best practices and implementation of well tested methodologies.
Virtual Sandtray does not require HIPAA certification as it does NOT collect or store any PHI (personal health information). Above and beyond these requirements, all Virtual Sandtray trays stored on the device, and transmitted when using remote, are encrypted via industry standard algorithms.
Do you want your session to be transmitted through remote access software where someone can eaves drop on? We don't either! If you utilize such software, it may say it is encrypted, but the service can still view the data. The remote feature of VSA does not expose your session through potentially insecure remote access software as we have full encryption from therapist to client(s).
