About Virtual Sandtray

Concept

Initial idea for Virtual Sandtray was to provide therapy in response to Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami in 2011.  Basically, how can therapist help in emergency situations with portable tools?  From 2011 to the end of 2013, design concepts were storyboarded and we worked with industry experts regarding the core therapeutic tenets of sandtray therapy.

At the start of 2014, development work began.  By June of 2014, a working version was demonstrated to industry experts at the International Play Therapy Study Group yearly meeting in Wroxton UK.  After a year and a half of extensive closed alpha and beta testing, the application was put on sale in the Apple app store in December 2015.

The Development Team

Jessica Stone  Ph.D. psychologist and RPT-S (Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor) with 22yrs experience came up with the idea.  To see further details on her credentials and accomplishments, visit her website at https://www.jessicastonephd.com.

The developer of all things Virtual Sandtray is Jessica’s husband, a degreed mechanical engineer who has been programming for nearly 40 years.

The secondary team is the kids, who have been enlisted as testers since the beginning of the project.

Virtual Sandtray is Developed Inhouse

The product was financed, developed and implemented exclusively in house. There is no board of directors or investors to work with. Changes, such as feature requests by users and new model additions, are addressed in a rapid and responsive manner that best serves the end users.

At the same time, this provides stability that cannot be matched by others.  We developed the application prior to Covid-19, expanded features during the period and will continue to be there for our customers.  Features are thoughtfully researched, faithfully implemented, well tested and backed by industry recognized experience and leadership in the field.
